PRETTY GIRLS IN RED SHOES AT HENLEY REGATTA

PHOTOGRAPHS OF SOME RECENT PAINTINGS OF SPORTS EVENTS

My oil painting of the Regatta at Henley-on-Thames is colourful, with red, blue and green dominant colours (or colors as they say in USA!).

The inspiration was my visit to Henley during the summer season in the UK, 2010.  The regatta is modern and yet traditional, a part of the English  calendar of sporting fixtures.  Ladies have to wear dresses which are not above the knee, and gentlemen wear blazers and flannels, or suits.

In my painting the pretty girls wear some skirts that are above the knee, but these are the girls who walk along the tow-path, outside the enclosures, so it doesn't matter what they wear!  The boys like looking at them just as much.  The tow-path of the grand River Thames is a green haven, lined with trees and grass, with ducks, coots and moorhens busy in the rushes,  a great place for an informal picnic.

The famous blue and white tents at Henley Regatta are the boat sheds, where the rowers sit outside and relax, waiting for their race.

The inspiration for the various dresses which the girls wear comes from drawings and photos which I took at the Henley Royal Regatta, the Cartier Gold Cup Polo at the Guards Polo Club, Windsor Great Park, and the Ascot horse races, Royal Ascot, where the Queen and Prince Philip drove past in the landau - (we had a good view sitting by the railings).
